WEST COAST MIDGETS CAPTURE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE WINDY CITY

The WC Midgets stormed into the windy city Chicago, Illinois and captured their 2nd Tournament Championship of the year with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Orland Park Vikings.  The weekend didn't start great as a scheduled exhibition game with the Illinois Sabres turned out to be a wake-up call to the boys when the Sabres scored 14 seconds into the 1st period.  The WC Boys eventually found their legs in time to pull out a 3-3 tie in the dying seconds but the slow start was something to improve on.

With a slow and shaky start behind them, the WC Midgets tournament started with a 8-1 win over Southern Ice Lightning and then the 1st of two hard fought battles with Orland Park ended in a 2-2.  The WC Boys really ramped up the intensity in the 2nd and 3rd periods of that game and that effort continued into a dominating effort over the Atlanta Fire 4-0.  With that 4-0 win over the Fire, the table was set for a highly contested battle with Orland Park on Sunday.

The West Coast Midgets took the opportunity Saturday night to keep the strong play going with an exhibition with the Florida Sharpshooters before the battle with Vikings the next days.  WC managed a 7-4 win but again, all knew the effort would need to improve if they wanted to beat the Vikings in the Final.  With great leadership, timely scoring and very strong goaltending, the WC Boys won the Championship final, scoring the winning goal with under 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd.

Congrats!!

WEST COAST BANTAMS DOMINATE THE CHUCK MANTELLO TOURNAMENT FOR THEIR 1ST CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE SEASON

THE WEST COAST BANTAMS CAME INTO TRI-CITIES WITH ONE GOAL IN MIND.  WIN THE CHUCK MANTELLO TOURNAMENT!!  THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID.  THE WC BOYS RATTLED OFF WINS OVER McCALL, SNO-KING AND TRI-CITIES IN THE ROUND ROBIN AND OUT SCORED THEIR OPPONENTS 39 -1 IN THOSE 3 GAMES.  THEY CONTINUED TO TAKE THE COMPETITION BY STORM IN THE SEMI-FINAL WHEN THEY MET UP WITH THE ONLY CANADIAN TEAM IN THE TOURNAMENT AND BEAT UP ON CHILLIWACK 6-0.  NEXT UP IN THE FINAL WOULD BE BUTTE, MONTANA.  THE GAME STARTED LIKE ALL THE REST WITH THE WC BANTAMS GETTING AN EARLY 2-0 LEAD BUT THE MONTANA TEAM DIDN’T LAY DOWN FOR OUR BOYS AND PUSHED AND FOUGHT BACK WITH A VIGOROUS FORCHECK AND A NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE.  THAT GAME PLAN PAID OFF AS THEY WERE ABLE TO TIE THE GAME MIDWAY THROUGH THE 2ND PERIOD.  AFTER HAVING AN EASY TIME WITH THE COMPETITION, IT TOOK OUR WC BOYS A LITTLE TO GRASP THAT THEY NEEDED TO EARN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.  DURING THE 2 PERIOD INTERMISSION, SOME ENCOURAGING WORDS, ADVICE AND FOOT STOMPING BY THE COACHING STAFF IGNITED THE WC BANTAMS TO TAKE CONTROL ONCE AGAIN IN THE 3RD PERIOD AS THEY RE-ESTABLISHED THEIR GAME PLAN AND MANAGED TO GET THE GAME WINNER EARLY IN THE 3RD PERIOD.  FINAL SCORE 3-2 AND THE WC BANTAMS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE YEAR.  CONGRATULATIONS!!

NEXT UP FOR THE WC BANTAMS IS A 3 GAME SERIES WITH THE BOISE JR. STEELHEADS IN TRI-CITIES AND PREPARING FOR THE STATE CHAMPIONHSIP AT KENT VALLEY FEB 22-24.

KENT VALLEY BATTLES HARD IN CHUCK MANTELLO FINAL BUT SPOKANE TAKES THE HARD FOUGHT CONTEST

THE KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEES GOT OFF TO ANOTHER GREAT ROUND ROBIN START WITH IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES OVER SEATTLE JR, SPOKANE, SNO-KING AND THEIR MOST ENTERTAINING GAME OF THE YEAR, AND WIN OVER PORTLAND 3-2.  THE KV BOYS FINISHED 1ST IN THEIR DIVISION AND TOOK ON THE CHILLIWACK COYOTES IN THE SEMI-FINAL.  KENT VALLEY GOT OFF TO A QUICK START PUTTING CHILLIWACK DOWN 2 GOALS IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES.  CHILLIWACK FOUGHT BACK AND WITH KENT VALLEY IN THE PENALTY BOX, THEY FINALLY TIED THE GAME LATE IN THE 3RD.  KENT VALLEY SHOWED ONCE AGAIN THAT THEY CAN FIGHT THROUGH ADVERSITY AND THEY ANSWERED CHILLIWACK’S TYING GOAL TO TAKE A 3-2 LEAD.  CHILLIWACK MOUNTED A TORRID ATTACK IN THE LAST 2 MINUTES BUT KENT VALLEY WAS ABLE TO HOLD ON TO THE 3-2 VICTORY AND MEET UP WITH SPOKANE IN THE FINAL.  THE FINAL WAS A BACK AND FORTH AFFAIR WITH BOTH GOALIES MAKING GREAT SAVES TO KEEP THE GAME CLOSE.  ALL PLAYERS WERE BATTLING HARD ON BOTH SIDES AND IT WAS A REAL TREAT TO SEE TO GREAT TEAMS REALLY BATTLING EACH OTHER FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP.    SPOKANE OPENED THE SCORING BUT KENT VALLEY ANSWERED QUICKLY AND THE SEE SAW BATTLE CONTINUED WITH THE SCORE BEING 1-1 AFTER THE 2ND PERIOD.  THE 3RD PERIOD WOULDN’T BE ANY DIFFERENT.  SPOKANE TOOK THE LEAD 2-1 BUT WITHIN A MINUTE OF THAT GOAL, KENT VALLEY TIED IT UP TO EQUALIZE THE BATTLE ONCE AGAIN.

SPOKANE WAS ABLE TO AGAIN TAKE THE LEAD OFF THEIR 2ND POWER PLAY GOAL OF THE GAME AND WITH TIME NOW A FACTOR THE KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEES THREW EVERTHING THEY HAD INCLUDING THE KITCHEN SINK TO GET THE TYING GOAL.  THE SPOKANE GOALIE MADE THE SAVE OF THE YEAR TO DENY THE COMEBACK AND UNDER 2 MINUTES LEFT IN THE 3RD, SPOKANE SEALED THE DEAL WITH ANOTHER GOAL ON THE POWER PLAY.  FINAL SCORE WAS 4-2 SPOKANE.  A DISAPPOINTING LOSS BUT A LEARNING EXPERIENCE CAME OUT OF IT.  KENT VALLEY TOOK 11 PENALTIES IN THE FINAL AND THAT WAS A PART OF THEIR DOWNFALL.  DISCIPLINE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND WE WILL TAKE THE LESSON INTO OUR NEXT COMPETITION.

NEXT UP FOR THE KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEES IS A 3 GAME SERIES WITH BOISE JR. STEELHEADS IN TRI-CITIES FEB 2-3.

WEST COAST MIDGETS ATTACKED IN DALLAS

THE WC MIDGETS WERE OUSTED 3-1 IN THE SEMI-FINALS BY THE TEXAS ATTACK IN THE DALLAS ALLIANCE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT THIS PAST WEEKEND.  TEXAS ATTACK PROVIDED OUR WC BOYS THEIR ONLY TWO LOSSES OF THE TOURNAMENT ON THEIR WAY TO WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP.  IN AN EARLIER ROUND ROBIN GAME, THE ATTACK WON A TIGHT 2-1 BATTLE BUT THE WC MIDGETS DID FINISH 3RD IN THE STANDINGS WITH WINS OVER ILLINOIS SABRES 4-1 AND DALLAS ALLIANCE PREP 5-4 AND TO START OFF THE TOURNAMENT WEST COAST AND DALLAS ALLIANCE AA SKATED TO A 3-3 TIE.  OVERALL IT WAS A GOOD SHOWING FOR THE YOUNGEST TEAM IN THE TOURNAMENT.  NEXT UP FOR THE WCHC IS A COUPLE TUNE UP PRACTICES AND GAMES BEFORE THEY HEAD OFF TO CHICAGO FEB 15-18.

KENT VALLEY IS DENIED A TRIP TO THE FINALS WITH LOSS AGAINST BOW VALLEY IN VICTORIA AND FINISH 3RD.

THE KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEES GOT OFF ON AN IMPRESSIVE START IN VICTORIA WITH A 8-0 WIN OVER PENNISULA EAGLES.  THE DOMINATION CONTINUED IN THEIR 2ND ROUND ROBIN GAME WITH ANOTHER LOPSIDED VICTORY OVER KERRY PARK ISLANDERS.  WITH A SEMI-FINAL BERTH ALREADY IN SIGHTS, THE KENT VALLEY CLUB WAS VYING FOR 1ST PLACE IN THE DIVISION AGAINST NELSON WHO WAS ALSO UNDEFEATED.  KENT VALLEY GOT OFF TO A GREAT START AND OVERPOWERED THE NELSON LEAFS IN THE FIRST 7-8 MINS OF THE OPENING PERIOD AND SCORED THE ALL IMPORTANT 1ST GOAL BUT FROM THAT POINT ON, NELSON SHOWED A LOT OF CHARACTER AND RALLIED TO TAKE A 3-1 GOING INTO THE 3RD PERIOD WITH A BUZZER BEATER AT THE END OF THE 2ND TO TAKE THE 2 GOAL LEAD.  KENT VALLEY ALSO SHOWED HEART AND CHARACTER IN ATEMPTING THE COMEBACK BY OUT SHOOTING AND OUT CHANCING THE CANADIAN TEAM BUT TO NO AVAIL.  NELSON WOULD TAKE THE WIN 4-1.  IN THE SEMI-FINAL, OUR BOYS TOOK ON THE TEAM FROM ALBERTA; BOW VALLEY.  BOW VALLEY CAME OUT WITH A LOT OF SPEED AND RELENTLESS PRESSURE AND FORCED OUR BOYS INTO A LOT OF CHASING AROUND.  THE FINAL RESULT BEING A 9-3 LOST FOR KENT VALLEY.  THE TOURNAMENT WAS NOT OVER FOR THE KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEES AS THEY NOW PREPARED FOR THE CONSOLATION GAME FOR 3RD PLACE AGAINST TRIPORT EAGLES.  THE BOYS REGROUPED FROM THE SEMI-FINAL LOSS WITH GREAT EFFORT AND A 3RD PLACE FINISH WITH A 9-3 WIN.

NEXT UP FOR THE KV PEEWEES IS THE CHUCK MANTELLO TOURNAMENT IN TRI-CITIES JAN 18-21.

WEST COAST BANTAMS GET KNOCKED OUT IN SEMI-FINALS IN PHOENIX

The WC Bantams got off to a great start in Phoenix winning their first two games against Alaska Eagles 5-1 and Calgary Stampeders 2-1.   With 2 wins under their belt the WC Bantams squared off against the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes for a 1st place show down.  West Coast took the lead midway through the second period and with outstanding net minding were able to seize the momentum early in the 3rd.  Phoenix continued to fight for the equalizer and with just under 6 minutes left they earned what they wanted and took the life out of the WC boys.  Under a minute later, Phoenix took the lead and now, smelling blood in the water, they continued the onslaught and scored two more times to finish the WC Bantams 4-1.   A 2-1 record ensured our boys 2nd in their division and a spot in the semi finals VS the 1st place Colorado Springs in a crossover playoff format.  In the semi final Colorado took an earlier 2-0 lead which they would never relinquish.  Penalty trouble throughout the game hampered any comeback for the WC Bantams and the final score was 5-1.  Phoenix would beat Colorado Springs 3-1 in the Final.

Next up for the WC Bantams is a practice weekend in Tri-Cities Jan 12-13 and then the Chuck Mantello Tournament Jan 17-19.

WEST COAST MIDGETS GET THEIR POCKETS PICKED IN CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL IN PHOENIX

Coming off their Tournament win in Denver, the WC Midgets had their eyes set on their 2nd consecutive Tournament Championship in Phoenix, Arizona.  The WC Boys went 3-0 in the Round Robin with impressive victories over Mission Ice, Peoria Roadrunners and a hard fought battle against the Alaska All Stars 2-1.  In the semi final VOSHA threw everything they could muster at the WC Midgets and had a surprising 2-1 lead midway through the second period until the light finally clicked on for the good guys and they decided to get serious.  Final score 8-2 for WC and a rematch in the final against the Alaska All Stars who beat the Artic Lions in their semi-final 3-1.  In the final Alaska came out with a high energy attack and took control over a very tentative WC Team.  WC finally found their legs late in the 1st period and that carried over into the second period when they took back control of the game and a 1-0 lead thanks to DJ Maxey going into the 3rd.  The two teams battled hard and had quality scoring opportunities but both goalie stole the show.  It appeared that West Coast would sneak out of the game with a 1-0 victory when Alaska took a penalty with 58 seconds left in the 3rd but Alaska wouldn’t quit and won possession of the puck and pulled the goalie once they gained the offensive zone.  A relentless forecheck by the All Stars resulted in 3 key turnovers which they finally took advantage of with 22 seconds left to tie the game at 1-1 and we’re heading to overtime.  In the OT, West Coast ended up with a 5 on 3 power play but were not able to convert and the momentum had switched to Alaska.   The WC Midgets tried to hold on, but in the end, Alaska won the Championship scoring in the OT with under a minute left.  A tough loss for the West Coast Midgets but a valuable learning experience.  The West Coast Midgets congratulated the Alaska All Stars on their Tournament Win.

Next up for the WC Midgets is a series of game with Boise with a practice weekend.  Then off to Dallas for the Dallas Alliance Tournament.

KENT VALLEY SELECTS FALL ONE GAME SHORT IN KAMLOOPS

With the rumor mill swirling throughout Washington State on the “demise “ of the Kent Valley Selects Travel team due to false interpretations, the KV boys step up and show great leadership, heart and desire in their attempt to become the best team in the State.  This past weekend in Kamloops, our boys showed that making the team atmosphere more like family brings everyone together in tough times.

Kent Valley Selects had important wins over Whitehorse, Trail and Kitimat, spring boarding them into the semi-finals against Salmon Arm.  Salmon Arm was a tough challenge and really pushed our boys to the end.  Great goaltending from Austin McCain and timely scoring for Zack Walden and Caleb Bromley finished off the semi-final victory 2-1.  In the final against Wheatland, Alberta.....well, let's just say we've had better days.  It appeared that the semi-final took a lot out of our boys as they came out flat and really didn't have an answer for the Alberta boys.  A nice goal off the post early in the 3rd from Codee Cornell gave the team some life but in the end Wheatland was just too strong on this day.  A deserving win and the Kent Valley Selects Travel Team congratulates Wheatland on the Tournament Championship.

Next up for the Kent Valley Boys is a Tournament in Victoria, BC in early January, followed by another tournament in Tri-Cities in mid-January.  We are also in talks with hosting Wheatland as they wish to visit Washington State for a little hockey tour.  More info TBA

TEAM INCONSISTENCY AN ISSUE FOR WC BANTAMS IN TRAIL, BC

The WC Bantams had moments of dominance followed by moments of inconsistency which led to a 1-2-1 record and out of the playoff round in Trail, BC this past weekend.  The first game of the tournament was a 4-1 loss to Mindapore from Calgary, Alberta.  In a penalty filled game, the Albertans were just better on special teams this night as they scored 3 times on the power play to ensure their victory.  The WC boys rebounded with a win over Lethbridge, Alberta 4-1.  The boys took over in the second period and tallied their only victory of the weekend.  Game 3 against the host team Trail had playoff implications and the WCHC team came out with their best 20 mins of the tournament knowing they needed a win to make the semi-finals.  A great 1st period and a 2-0 lead quickly disappeared for the WC Bantams as very untimely mistakes and costly penalties allowed Trail to seize the momentum and steam roll over the boys in the 3rd period to a 8-3 win.  Game 4 was a rematch with Lethbridge in a consolation game.   The WC Boys came out with a purpose and dominated the 1st two periods and had a 5-2 lead going into the 3rd period.  Once again the same problems arose and the team saw the 3 goal lead disappear in the final 25 seconds as Lethbridge tied the game off a faceoff in the defensive zone.  The boys were obviously dejected but see that the problem areas are starting to be solved and the mistakes that they are making can be fixed.  Next up for the West Coast Bantams are a couple practices next weekend with a tune up game against Kent Valley Sunday morning.....then off to Phoenix for the Coyote Cup.

WC MIDGETS CAPTURE A TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP IN LITTLETON, COLORADO

WC Midgets flew into Denver for 2 reasons this past Thanksgiving weekend: they were looking for a little revenge for a loss two years ago to Littleton and to bring home the 1st championship of the season.  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!

Game 1 against Team Houston was a dominating performance as the WC crew took control early and applied pressure all night to overwhelm their competition to a 3-1 victory.  The Houston goaltender stood tall to keep the game close.  Game 2 was the most impressive win of the season as the WC Midgets once again dominated. The shell shocked Dallas Alliance Bulldogs had no answer to the oncoming wave of pressure with the final score being 6-1.  Game 3 was a much tougher challenge as Team Northwest from Illinois pushed and fought back against the WC Attack and only timely scoring and outstanding goaltending helped WC to a 2-0 win.  West Coast kept their foot on the gas during Game 4 against Anchorage Northstars.  Consistent play throughout the line up lead the team to a 4-0 victory.  Game 5 was a preview of the Championship Final as the WCHC squared off against the Dallas Alliance Prep with the result final being a 2-2 tie.  WC tied the affair with just over a minute to play in the 3rd period.  Alliance Prep score with just under 2 minutes left in the 3rd to take the lead but 30 seconds later the WC boys showed their heart and tied the game.  Game 6: "Revenge Time".  WC battled the host Littleton Hawks and took an early 2-0 lead and all the momentum until penalty trouble arrived.  WC killed off 12 of 13 penalties and 6 in the 3rd period alone but Littleton was able to tie the semi-final at 2-2.  The final outcome would happen with just over 4 minutes to play when Kyle Vogel scored.  WC needed to kill off two more penalties to secure their place in the final and once again "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED".  Everyone knew Game 7 was going to be a tough match up vs Dallas Prep and it held true.  The Prep squad put a lot of pressure on the good guys and WC once again battled through 7 straight penalties.  Jacob Grimm got the WC Crew off and running to a 1-0 only to see Dallas score 2 Power Play goals and control of the game.  Johnny Buckett tied the game off a rebound against the flow as WC executed "The Play" to Ethan McAlpine.  The second period intermission is exactly what our boys needed to regroup and find their game.  WC again dominated the 3rd period, getting the game winning goal from Shawn Pauly and smothering Dallas Prep with suffocating defence allowing only 2 shots in the 3rd period to capture the 36th Mile High Tournament Championship.

WC Bantams Ride The Mile High Roller Coaster in Littleton, Colorado

The West Coast Bantams traveled to Denver for the 36th Thanksgiving Mile High Tournament and proceeded to have their ups and downs during their 5 game round robin.  Inconsistent play left our WC Boys with an overall record of 2-3, missing the playoff round by 1 point.

Game 1 was a 4-1 win over Arapahoe who eventually won the tournament.  Corey Grummick held the boys until the 2nd when WC scored 3 times and then played with confidence in the 3rd to seal the deal.  Game 2 was a different team all together as they couldn't follow up a strong 3rd period in game 1 and played with a lackluster effort to a 7-5 loss to Mtn States.  Game 3 was the high point of the roller coaster ride in Denver as a team meeting and a walk about in some snowy weather refocused the team to an impressive 5-1 win against Dallas Alliance.  Now the question was; could they build off that  Dallas win against the host team, Littleton Hawks in game 4..........the answer was NO.  WC came off their best effort of the season and slept through a 6-0 defeat in Littleton.  Once again the WC coaching staff had to get the boys attention with some tough love as game 5 against Colorado Hockey Club was for their playoff lives.  The WC boys came out hard and battled to the end but the final result was a 2-1 loss to CHC.  CHC would go on to lose against Arapahoe in the Final.

Next up for the West Coast Hockey Club Bantams is a trip to Trail for a tournament and then to Phoenix right after Christmas.

KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEES LOSE THE "KEY TO THEIR SUCCESS"..... WIN STREAK ENDS AT 14

The Kent Valley Travel Peewees brought an 11 game winning streak into the South Okanagan Tournament this past weekend.  They illustrated this winning streak early on with dominating victories over New Westminster 4-1 and Ridge Meadows 4-0.  With the winning streak now at 13 games, the boys seemed to " LOSE THE KEY TO THEIR SUCCESS".  They were able to beat North Vancouver 4-3 and finish 1st in their division but their usual smothering forecheck, tenacious defence and all around team effort was lacking.  The lack of intensity continued in the semi-final game against Port Alberni and the final result was Kent Valley's 1st loss in 14 games with the final score being 3-2.

Despite the loss, the boys realize what the "KEY TO THEIR SUCCESS" is and the team's goal is to regain that focus and team commitment to the small details and start a new winning streak.  The Kent Valley Travel Peewees play next against Spokane in a series of games in early December and then off to Kamloops Dec 7-9.

WC BANTAMS TAKE 2 WINS FROM KENT VALLEY

THERE WAS A GREAT ATMOSPHERE AT THE SPRINKER ARENA LAST WEEKEND AS FAMILY AND FRIENDS GATHERED TO WATCH TWO LOCAL TEAMS BATTLE IT OUT IN A 2 GAME SERIES.  THE WC BANTAMS MANAGED TO TAKE BOTH GAMES AS THEY PREPARE FOR THE THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT IN LITTLETON, COLORADO.

THE 1ST GAME WAS A 6-1 VICTORY WITH COOPER MICKELSON STEPPING UP AND TAKING CONTROL OFFENSIVELY AND COREY GRUMMICK MAKING BIG SAVES WHEN CALLED UPON.  THE SCORE WAS 5-0 AFTER THE 2ND PERIOD AND WCHC COASTED TO THE LOPSIDED WIN.  THE SECOND GAME WAS A DIFFERENT STORY AS KENT VALLEY REALLY STEPPED UP THEIR GAME AND BATTLED HARD AGAINST OUR WC BOYS.  THIS WAS THE KIND OF GAME WC WAS LOOKING FOR AS IT WAS FAST PACED WITH GREAT GOALTENDING FROM BOTH ENDS.  WC GOALIE JOSH BARTON MADE KEY SAVES DOWN THE STRETCH TO PRESERVE THE 2-1 WIN.  PHYSICALLY, MICHAEL PEREZ LEAD THE TEAM WHICH WAS GREAT TO SEE AFTER COMING OFF AN ANKLE INJURY.  HE ALSO HAD SUPPORT FROM THE TEAM "POLICEMAN" JOE HOOVER ON THE BACK END.  OFFENSIVELY AUSTIN AZURDIA AND GAVIN STOICK LED THE WAY IN THE FINAL GAME.  GOOD LUCK IN COLORADO BOYS!!

WC MIDGETS UNDEFEATED IN 3 GAME PORTLAND SERIES

THE WC MIDGETS WENT TO PORTLAND LOOKING FOR SOME TOUGH TUNE UP GAMES BEFORE HEADING TO LITTLETON, COLORADO AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY RECEIVED.  IT SEEMS THAT EVERY WCHC GAME VS PORTLAND IS A TOUGH, PHYSICAL BATTLE AND THAT HELD TRUE ONCE AGAIN. THE WC BOYS WALKED AWAY WITH A 1-0-2 RECORD THIS PAST WEEKEND AND THEIR OVERALL RECORD IMPROVES TO 9-3-7.

THE FIRST TWO GAMES IN PORTLAND RESULTED IN AN 1-1 & 2-2 TIE WITH BOTH WC GOALIES, AARON HURT AND ERIC SIMIELE HOLDING DOWN THE FORT UNTIL THE WC PLAYERS FOUND THEIR LEGS IN THE 3RD GAME WITH A 4-1 WIN.  WEST COAST BATTLED THROUGH SOME TOUGH PENALTY CALLS DURING THE PHYSICAL AFFAIR AND SEEM TO COME TOGETHER WHEN IT MATTERED MOST.  THE 3RD GAME OF THE WEEKEND WAS THEIR BEST " TEAM EFFORT" IN QUITE SOME TIME AS THEY ARE STILL LOOKING TO PUT FORTH A CONSISTENT FULL GAME EFFORT.

AS MENTIONED EARLIER, THE WC MIDGETS ARE OFF TO LITTLETON, COLORADO FOR A THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT.  1ST GAME IS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22 AGAINST HOUSTON WITH OTHER GAMES AGAINST ALLIANCE BULLDOGS, NORTHWEST AND ALASKA.  WE'RE LOOKING FOR GREAT RESULTS.  GOOD LUCK BOYS!!

WEST COAST MIDGETS "TIE ONE ON" IN WESTSIDE WARRIOR AAA TOURNAMENT

It was the best of times and the worst of times for the WC Midgets as they took on all challengers at the Westside Warriors AAA Tournament Nov 9-12.  With only 1 loss under their belt, the WC Midgets failed to reach the playoff round which was a direct result of inconsistent play and they left Westbank, BC with a 0-1-3 record.

YES, that's 3 ties...........The WC boys had a 2 goal lead going in the 3rd period in their only loss against Burnaby (4-3) and the same is true against the Westside Warriors with a slightly different result (2-2).  The WC Boys were able to change the tables and make some late 3rd period comebacks against Pursuit of Excellence (6-6) and Penticton Vee's (5-5).  In the final game against Penticton, the WC Midget's were down 4-0 in the first 10 minutes but Coach Pauly was able to bring the team around and the comeback was complete with 14 seconds left in the 3rd.

We've seen the best of the West Coast Hockey Club Midgets and we've seen the worst. The team's goal is to play a complete game and that starts next weekend in Portland for 3 tune up games and then they are off to Littleton, Colorado over Thanksgiving for the Littleton Hawks Annual U-16 Tournament.

WC BANTAMS TAKE 4 CLOSE LOSSES BUT GAIN VALUABLE AAA GAME EXPERIENCE

WC Bantams were in Penticton, BC this past weekend for the Annual Bantam AAA tournament which had top teams from Vancouver, Okanagan, Washington state and Alberta.  Our WC Bantams lost 4 tight games during this weekend but didn't walk away unhappy, just motivated to work harder as a team and clean up some mental mistakes that you can't make at the AAA level.  They also picked up valuable game experience and a sense of what it takes to play against good quality teams.

The WC Bantams as a whole improved in every aspect of their game as they looked and played with more confidence as the tournament progressed.  They had tough losses against Vancouver 2-1, Burnaby 5-2, Penticton 4-1 and Vancouver again 4-3.

Next up for the WC Bantams is a practice weekend in Tri-Cities with one exhibition game against the Tri-Cities Jr. Americans.  They are preparing for their first fly away tournament in Littleton, Colorado November 23-26.  The team‘s goal is to bring back some hardware!!

KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEE'S SOAR OVER PORTLAND FOR THEIR 10 TH & 11 TH STRAIGHT WINS

The winning streak continued this past weekend for the Kent Valley Travel Peewee's as they grounded the high flying Portland Jr. Hawks in a 2 game set.  This weekend marked a 1st for the season as the KV Peewee's played in the Seattle area in front of friends, family and curious onlookers.  The atmosphere was electric with the end to end action in game #1.  The good guys filled the net 7 times to seal the deal in a 7-5 victory.  Game #2 was much more defensive as both teams made some key adjustments to their respective game plans.  Both teams came out hitting hard, took the body and determined to win all the small battles that are needed to win a tightly contested game.  Once again, the KV Travel Peewee's showed the competition that they will battle to the end to capture the victories needed to extend their winning streak.  KV won game #2, 4-2 and now ride an 11 game winning streak.  We'd like to thank the Portland Jr. Hawks for traveling to Seattle and playing in some entertaining youth hockey.  Next up for the KV Travel Peewee's is a trip to the Okanagan for a Tournament in Osoyoos / Oliver, BC Nov 9-11.  This will be the toughest competition to date and we look forward to the challenge. 9 STRAIGHT WINS FOR THE KENT VALLEY TRAVEL PEEWEE'S

The Kent Valley Peewee Travel Team has now won 9 games in a row after another successful weekend in Boise, Idaho.  The Kent Valley Peewee Team once again smothered the opposition with their continuous pursuit of the puck, rock steady defence and timely scoring.  They had impressive victories over the Boise Steelheads 3-1, Oakland Bears 2-1, Rocky Mountain Renegades 11-0 and Chandler Polar Bears 4-2.  The Team now has the next weekend off before they start to prepare for the next Tournament Nov 9-11 in the South Okanagan.  Keep up the great work boys!!

WEST COAST BANTAM'S SWEEP BOISE IN A 3 GAME SET

After having the previous weekend off, the West Coast Bantam's were a bit sleepy in the first meeting with the Boise Steelheads but managed to find their legs in the second half and pull out a 7-1 win.  In the second game Boise came out hard and scored first but the WC players didn't panic and followed the game plan and were eventually rewarded with a Power Play goal and a shorthanded goal to pull out a narrow 2-1 win.  The third game a different story.  The WC Bantam's thoroughly dominated the play physically and wore the Steelheads down as the game went on.  Tempers were a little high but in control as the WC Bantam's won 7-1.  We look forward to having Boise down in Washington State in Feb for another 3 game set.

Kent Valley Peewee's Win Seafair Tournament

We would like to congratulate the Kent Valley Selects Travel Peewee team on their impressive Tournament Championship run Oct 5-8 at the Seafair Ice Breaker Tournament.  The entire team bought in to the goals set for the team and executed a dominating 5 win performance throughout the weekend.  The Kent Valley Peewee’s only gave up 4 goals in 5 games which show’s their commitment to team defence as well as having solid goaltending from Cam Gray and Austin McCain.  Offensively, the team moved the puck around well and had a smothering forecheck which resulted in frustrating their opponents into submission.  They had victories over the Saanich Braves 7-0, Semiahoo Ravens 2-0, North Delta 7-0, and 8-1 over PoCo Pirates and another win in the Finals against Semiahoo 5-3.  The Kent Valley Select Travel team is now off to Boise to play five games against the Utah Stars, Chandler Polar Bears, Boise Jr. Steelheads, Oakland and Portland Jr. Hawks.

West Coast Midget's Have Great Results in Seafair Tournament

We would like to congratulate the West Coast Hockey Club Midget’s for making it to the finals of the Seafair Ice Breaker Tournament.  Even though they lost in the final to the host Seafair Islanders 4-0, they showed tremendous heart and character competing against teams that were two years older.  They had impressive victories over Vancouver Spirit, Whatcom Hawks and Semiahoo Ravens in the Semi-Final.  They also had a well earned tie against Juan de Fuca to ensure a birth in the playoff round.  The West Coast Midget’s are now off to Boise for games against Boise, Utah Stars, Tacoma, Portland and Vacaville.
